10 Amazing Crochet Cosplay Creations

| Original: October 01, 2021

Cosplay is not restricted to just Halloween. You'll normally see cosplayers fully dressed as their favorite characters at special conventions and festivals.

Cosplay costumes are not just any off-the-rack costumes that you would normally find in a store. Many dedicated cosplayers set out to create their own costumes because they want more detail in them.

Cosplay has really exploded since the 1990s. I've seen many amazing cosplay costumes, but here's something different. They're not just crochet costumes. They're crocheted cosplay costumes!

Let's check them out:

Princess Anna's Coronation Dress

Crochet Cosplay: Princess Anna Coronation Dress

I came across this Princess Anna coronation evening gown on Reddit and I had to take a second glance. What is this costume doing on the crochet subreddit? I had to zoom in to take a closer look.

I can't believe that it's 100% crocheted. This took TransatlanticCrochet approximately 18 months to complete and it's absolutely a masterpiece from the original Frozen movie!

She admits that it is quite heavy (around 5kg) and that she needed extra support around the waist so that it doesn't drag down the top.

Elsa's Ice Queen Dress

Crochet Cosplay: Elsa Ice Queen from Frozen

You can't have Anna without Elsa and I can't get enough of Frozen crocheted cosplays. This elegantly made Elsa's Ice Queen cosplay is another amazing creation made by TransatlanticCrochet!

She absolutely nailed it with the flowy lacey snowflake cape. This beautiful crocheted Elsa costume was once featured in Cosplay Realm Magazine too!

Princess Anna's North Moutain Dress

Crochet Cosplay: Princess Anna North Mountain Dress from Frozen

I clearly can't get enough of TransatlanticCrochet. The more I dig into her portfolio, the more I find that I love her.

The last Frozen cosplay costume that I'm going to be featuring in this blog post is Princess Anna's North Moutain Dress. This time she even documented the pattern as she designed it.

Oh, and guess what? It's even got pockets!

Princess Anna from Olaf's Frozen Adventure

Crochet Cosplay: Princess Anna from Olaf's Frozen Adventure

Did I ever tell you about that one winter night when I showed my kids Olaf's Frozen Adventure and then we watched it every single night for the next 6 months? Yes, that's right. We watched this Frozen Christmas special all the way to summer.

It's a cute special - as long as I didn't have to watch it every night. Transatlantic Crochet has knocked this crochet cosplay right out of the park again with another Princess Anna crochet outfit.

Sailor Saturn

Crochet Cosplay: Sailor Saturn

I actually came across this Sailor Saturn crocheted costume by Woolly Rhino Crafts a few years ago. Sailor Saturn is one of my favorite Sailor Scouts and I am so impressed by the work that went into crocheting this costume/cosplay!

This crocheted costume took her around 400 hours. Not only did she use the colors of her costume, but she also added shading to the bodice of the costume. This is such an ambitious piece!

Yoshi's Woolly World

Crochet Cosplay: Yoshi from Mario Brothers

SmallRiniLady spent 35 hours crocheting this adorable Yoshi costume. If you're a yarn fan, you've probably heard of Yoshi's Woolly World video game.

It's a really cute video game, although I've never played it before because I no longer own an up-to-date video game console.

However, back when I used to play Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, I was ALWAYS Yoshi. Yoshi is my go-to character, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw this crochet cosplay costume. It's adorable!

Dr. Strange from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Crochet Cosplay: Dr Strange From Marvel Universe

I've only recently watched the Dr. Strange movie. I watched it while crocheting, so I don't really know what's going on. Might have to watch it again. But Scarlet Stitch Studios did a magnificent job with all the little details on Dr. Strange's crochet cosplay.

Scarlet Witch from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Crochet Cosplay: Scarlet Witch from Marvel Universe

I watched WandaVision last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't been following the whole Disney Marvel Universe movies, there are just way too many.

But when the trailer for WandaVision kept playing on TV, it piqued my interest. This adorable Scarlet Witch crochet cosplay is another MARVELous creation by Scarlet Stitch Studios.

Slimer from Ghostbusters

Crochet Cosplay: Slimer from Ghostbusters

Stephanie from Crochetverse has made many costumes for her kids over the years and each year is more impressive than the last! Not only that but she's also been featured on Ripley's Believe it or Not.

This crocheted Slimer costume is created using glow-in-the-dark yarn. Special surprises happen when the lights are out!

Link from The Legend of Zelda

Crochet Cosplay: Link from Zelda

I'm not really a gamer and I'm embarrassed to admit that I once thought that Zelda was the name of the boy, not Link. But for those who love the game, this is a really cute couple cosplay idea! Inspired by many of the crochet artists mentioned on this page, Stephanie crocheted her own young Link cosplay from Legends of Zelda.
