Ever since Taylor Swift released her Opalite music video, I've seen so many fans hoping she'll release those glitter tracksuits as official merch. There were so many different looks from the music video, but the sparkly blue tracksuits with bright orange stripes that appear at the end instantly became iconic.
It's a bit flashy for me as everyday wear, but nothing is stopping me from turning it into an amigurumi doll!

If you've been following along for a while, you might know that I love making Taylor Swift crochet projects inspired by some of her most iconic looks. This time, I designed an amigurumi Taylor Swift doll inspired by the Opalite music video, complete with her glittery tracksuit look.

But I didn't stop there. I also made the lonely man from the music video, played by Domhnall Gleeson. Now the two of them make the perfect pair of Taylor Swift crochet dolls, ready to add a little Swiftie sparkle to my Taylor Swift craft collection.

- Learn how to seamlessly change color in crochet mid-row or round to create clean color transitions.
- Crochet in continuous spiral rounds. Do not join at the end of each round unless otherwise stated.

Assembly
- Reinforce the neck of the amigurumi doll (e.g., a folded paper/plastic straw).
- Attach the head to the amigurumi doll.
- Align the hairpiece to the amigurumi doll head. The magic circle of the hairpiece should meet the magic circle on the crown of the head.
- Use sewing pins to position each strand of hair and style it.
- Sew or glue down each strand of hair.
Add the Details

Surface slst or chain stitch embroider orange stripes to the side of the arms and legs of the tracksuit. Add a thread to the front for the tracksuit zipper.
Inspiration Behind the Crochet Design
This Taylor Swift crochet doll was inspired by the Opalite music video by Taylor Swift, which quickly became one of my favorite music videos of hers.

When the video first came out, it wasn't immediately available everywhere, so I had to wait a bit before I could watch it. In the meantime, I kept watching little glimpses of it through reviews and short clips online, which only made me more excited to see the full video.
I'll admit that before this, I had seen Domhnall Gleeson in a few movies and TV shows, but never really paid enough attention to remember him by name. After watching the music video, I absolutely ADORED him. I even went back to watch The Paper (I'm a huge fan of The Office, but I hadn't paid much attention to The Paper the first time my husband watched it).

The Opalite music video has such a strong 90's vibe, and there's one scene in particular that completely melted me: the moment when Taylor and Domhnall first hold hands on the escalator. It perfectly captures that slightly awkward, slightly embarrassed feeling when couples first hold hands, and I found myself completely gushing over it.
The video features quite a few different outfits, but when it came time to turn the idea into an amigurumi design, I knew I had to pick just one. In the end, the glitter tracksuits at the end of the video felt like the most fun choice.

For the tracksuits, I used a metallic yarn from Hobbii called Flash It!, which was my first time using it for an amigurumi project. The shade of blue was absolutely chef's kiss. Because it's a tape-style yarn, it can twist a bit while crocheting. I found it works best when worked flat, which helps reduce the appearance of gaps between the stitches.
