Nothing makes a vacation more exciting than a last-minute craft, am I right?
We’ve been incredibly lucky to go on a Disney trip four years in a row since 2022, and I’ve managed to make something special for every single trip. It’s become a little tradition of mine—and one that always brings a little extra magic to our vacations.
Here’s a little walk down memory lane…
- 2022: Our very first Disneyland trip in the spring! I made a pair of wired floral mouse ears. They were so fun and whimsical, perfect for the season. I also crocheted checkered bucket hats for the girls.
- 2023: We returned to Disneyland for Christmas, and I made Minnie Mouse Santa hats for my girls. They were festive, cozy, and made for the cutest holiday photos!
- 2024: We set sail on our first-ever Disney Cruise as a family, and I brought a bit of pop culture flair with a handmade Princess Eras Tour sweatshirt. It was the perfect thing to wear while watching the sunset on the deck.
- 2025: And now, we’re off to Walt Disney World in Orlando!
I have a lot of Disney crochet and craft projects, and I love every one of them, but this time I wanted to make something both cute and practical.

While my floral mouse ears were beautiful, even in the mild Los Angeles spring weather, I noticed that some flowers started detaching (curse you, hot glue!). I just knew they wouldn’t survive the Orlando heat and humidity.

So for this year’s trip, I decided to make a brand new craft—something that would not only be cute and Disney-themed, but also functional. After all, the Florida sun is no joke!
That’s how I landed on making a Minnie Mouse bucket hat!
This is a super quick, last-minute craft—I literally started it one day before we left for our Disney World adventure. So if you’re looking for something fun and doable on a tight timeline, this is totally it.

It’s comfy, cute, and best of all—keeps me shaded while I’m running around the parks chasing character meet-and-greets and Dole Whips.

Free Crochet Pattern and Instructions
Mouse Ears (make 2)
Using a 4.5 mm crochet hook and black yarn...
Round 1: Magic ring with a base of 12 dc, slst join (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, Dc-inc in each st around, slst join (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2, [Dc, dc-inc] x 12 times, slst join (36 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, [Sc, sc-inc, sc] x 12 times, slst join (48 sts)
Cut and fasten off invisibly. The circle should measure about 10 cm when finished.
Optional: I don't have any black glitter yarn, but I really wanted to make my mouse ears shimmer, so I opted to use some black glitter heat transfer vinyl by cutting out 10 cm black circles and ironing them onto the crocheted mouse ears.

Bow
Using a 4.45 mm crochet hook and red yarn...
Round 1: Ch 50, slst to join to the first ch. Ch 2, hdc in each st around, slst to join the first st (50 sts)
Round 2-12: Ch 2, hdc into the third loop in each st around (50 sts)
I decided to use the "wrong side" of the piece because I love the underside texture that the hdc in the third loop created. But if you like the ribbing look, you can use that side instead.

Pinch the middle of the bow and wrap the yarn around the center of the bow multiple times. Cut and fasten off the bow. The bow puffed up beautifully. I didn't even need to add stuffing!
