How to Make a Zine Step-by-Step
- Fold the paper in half lengthwise (hotdog style). Crease well.
- Unfold, then fold in half widthwise (hamburger style).
- Fold the top and bottom edges to the center fold, so you now have 8 rectangles on the page.
- Unfold everything and fold it again widthwise (hamburger style).
- With the fold at the top, cut along the center crease from the folded edge to the middle (just one rectangle length).
- Unfold, then refold lengthwise (hotdog style).
- Hold both ends and push inward. The cut will open into a diamond shape. Keep pushing until the pages fold into a book shape.
- Flatten and crease—you now have an 8-page zine!

Why I Made This
This crochet reference zine was actually inspired by my daughter. One day, she came home from school and told me that she had made a "zine." I'll admit, I had to ask her what that meant. She explained it was a tiny DIY booklet made by folding a single sheet of paper. No glue needed.
As she showed me her creation, it brought back memories. I had actually made one before, too, as a notebook for a previous crochet project. I used it to jot down stitch counts and pattern notes on he go.
That moment sent me down a rabbit hole, and I realized that people make zines for all kinds of reasons: journaling, art, activism, fandoms, and more.
I thought, "Why not make a crochet version?" Something functional and fun. A little tool that's cute, easy to carry, and helpful in everyday crafting.

And so, this mini crochet zine was born.
I designed this zine to be something I'd personally reach for again and again, and I hope it becomes a staple in your crochet life too! Let me know if you'd love a second version with other reference content. I'd love to make more if there's interest.
