Red Panda Crochet Tamagotchi Case Pattern

| Original: March 06, 2023

Did you know that Tamagotchis are still in production and going strong? The most popular toy from the 90s made a comeback when Pixar's Turning Red was released!

Turning Red has become one of my family's favorite movies of all time! As a Chinese Canadian kid who grew up in the 90s, this movie brought back so many memories. The moment I saw Meilin Lee (aka Mei, the main character) marching onto the screen with a Tamagotchi strapped to her backpack, I knew it was going to be good.

I love the movie so much, I even crocheted a pair of fluffy red panda ears for myself last year just for fun!

Growing up, I longed for a Tamagotchi, but because they were so popular, they were ridiculously priced at the time. I didn't have a Tamagotchi. Instead, I had a different digital pet toy called Dinky Dino, which is just as cute, to be honest.

Tamagotchis have come out with so many different versions since my day. In fact, the Tamagotchi community is very much alive! There are many serious collectors out there who are willing to pay hundreds if not thousands for discontinued Tamagotchis.

The best part about growing up is that I actually have money now to live out my childhood dreams. So... I got myself a brand new Tamagotchi Pix.

This Red Panda Tamagotchi Case is inspired by Pixar's Turning Red. I wish they had a red panda Tamagotchi, but they don't. I guess the only way to get one is to make my own! It also kind of reminds me of the Raccoon Mario from Nintendo as well.

This adorable Tamagotchi case is made to fit the Tamagotchi Pix with a camera hole in the back. It is a simple crochet pattern that is suitable for beginners as long as you know how to crochet in the round.

It uses worsted-weight yarn which can easily be found in local craft stores, but you may need to adjust your tension or the size of the hook to make sure it fits your Tamagotchi Pix. Some sewing is required.

Because it had a place to put a charm strap, I decided to crochet a fluffy red panda tail to add to my Tamagotchi! The best part about it is that it can also act as a stand to prop up your Tamagotchi.

I hope the Tamagotchi company will come out with a Red Panda Tamagotchi to commemorate the movie one day because this movie brought the Tamagotchi back into my life!
