Himouto! Umaru-chan Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

It's been a long time since I've watched anime. But recently, my brother introduced me to this one called Himouto! Umaru-Chan. It's a bit different than the ones I used to watch, but I found this one really cute and kinda relatable!

It's a really silly anime about this 16-year-old girl who lives with her older brother. At school, she's known as this really pretty, very smart, and well-mannered young lady.

People envy her for her smarts and her looks and all her classmates want to be her friend.

As soon as she gets home, she puts on her hamster hoodie and transforms. But not into a superhero like Sailormoon.

No no... She transforms into a chibi version of herself that's annoying, loves to game, eats like crap (think chips, sweets, and soda as her essential diet), and doesn't sleep.

At home, she's lazy, doesn't study, doesn't really do any housework, and waits for her brother to come home to cook her dinner.

Her brother tries to make a better person out of her, but I don't think he's been very successful.

All in all, it's a really cute anime that I think many people might enjoy if they just give it a chance.

I found her to be kind of relatable. Like, who doesn't want to eat junk food all day and not have to watch their weight? Or get good grades at school without needing to study? Or be deemed beautiful and flawless without putting in the effort?

And most importantly, who doesn't want to stay up all night to game and watch tv (and/or crochet) and have the energy to go to school/work the next day?

She's living a life I want to live.

So for fun, I decided to make a little Umaru-chan amigurumi because this anime kinda stole my heart. I hope you like it and give this anime a try!

Stitches & Abbreviations

  • st/sts - stitch/stitches
  • ch - chain
  • slst - slip stitch
  • sc - single crochet (using the yarn under method)
  • sc inc - single crochet increase, 2 single crochets in one stitch
  • sc dec - single crochet decrease, single crochet 2 stitches together
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • BLO - back loops only

Notes

  • I made this amigurumi doll using the "Yarn Under Single Crochet" technique. This technique makes the stitches tighter and appears more aligned.
  • I also used a half colour changing technique to achieve cleaner lines when changing colours from one row to another.
  • When working on the hairpiece, I used the underside of the piece as the "outside" or the side that is showing. The curls of the strands will follow a natural curl towards the face.
