How to Close Amigurumi with the Ultimate Finish

| Original: April 30, 2023

When you try to crochet spheres/balls and amigurumi, you are typically left with the last round that looks a little unfinished because there's an opening if you don't end up closing it.

For a long time, I was closing off the opening to my amigurumi spheres by stitching through the stitches to make them as small as possible. Until I learned this method, which is also known as the "ultimate finish".

In the tutorial below, I will show you how to seamlessly close up your amigurumi crochet spheres.

Here, I have a sphere that I created where I ended it with 6 single crochet stitches for the last row.

It doesn't matter how many crochet stitches you end with. If you plan to close up your crochet piece, you can still use this method to close up your crochet piece. The method is the same.

The Ultimate Finish for Amigurumi

1. The first step is to cut the yarn and pull the yarn tail through the last stitch completely. Then, thread the yarn tail into a yarn/tapestry needle (not shown).

2. Insert the needle through the front loops ONLY of the stitch from outside to inside.

3. Thread the yarn through the front loops of the last round's remaining stitches.

4. Pull gently to close the gap.

5. Insert your needle into the center of the finish and thread the yarn end through the crochet piece through the other side.

6. Pull tight and cut the yarn tail close to the surface so that it will retract back in when you reshape the amigurumi piece.
