I am so happy to announce that I've finally finished designing and crocheting all 5 emotions from Pixar's Inside Out!
Inside Out is a beloved Pixar animation in our family. It really helped when we were teaching the kids the different zones of regulation to help them learn self-regulation and emotional control.
Sadness Amigurumi Doll
Back in 2020 when the pandemic first started, we all thought the world was coming to an end. Everyone was stuck at home, and we all had to social distance and limit our contact with people. Our mental health took a back seat, and depression rates were on the rise.
I'm not a stranger to depression and on International Mental Health Day that year, I released my crochet pattern for my amigurumi Sadness. I am quite proud of that pattern because she quickly became my daughter's favorite toy.
Joy Amigurumi Doll
She then followed to ask for Joy, because you can't just have Sadness and not Joy. So I created Joy.
And for a while, I only had crochet patterns for Sadness and Joy. I didn't think to create any of the other characters from the movie, but then one day, I started receiving emails from parents and teachers.
Parents and teachers were making my Sadness and Joy dolls and using them to teach their children about emotions and self-regulation. Many started to ask whether I would be continuing to release the patterns for the remaining characters.
Anger Amigurumi Doll
I hesitated to promise anything because I would hate to make a promise I can't keep. But I tried.
Anger had a different head shape than the rest of them and I wasn't sure if I was able to achieve that. But he ended up being one of the cutest amigurumi dolls I've ever designed with his tie!
Disgust Amigurumi Doll
I then proceeded to design Disgust. Disgust is all about her sass and accessories. So of course, I needed to recreate her dramatic eyelashes using real falsies. It was probably one of the best parts of this amigurumi doll.
And so, the family grew...
Fear Amigurumi Doll
And then at last... there's Fear. I put off designing Fear for a long time because he was the oddest shape of all of them. It took me a few iterations before I finally came to a design that I was happy with.
And then there you have it, all 5 emotions from Pixar's Inside Out.
