Over the holidays last year, I entered Lalylala's Instagram giveaway for her book Beetles, Bugs, and Butterflies.

To my surprise, on Christmas Day, I got tagged on the winners' announcement notifying me that I'd won an eBook copy of this beautiful book!

I was so excited. I never win anything!

This book is a work of art. I had actually bought the hardcover copy of the book prior to winning the giveaway, and I plan to keep it!

I'm likely going to use the eBook version more just so I won't damage the hard copy of the book.

The layout of this book was fantastic. The book is divided into three separate sections. First, there's a short story about a little caterpillar with big dreams.

The second section teaches crocheting and assembling techniques. And the last section is the patterns to make all of the beetles, bugs, and butterflies that you see on the cover of this book!

If you have not seen these critters crawling around on Instagram yet, you have got to check them out! Lalylala's clever design allows you to create caterpillars and beetles that hatch from an egg to transform into butterflies and ladybugs.

The thoughtfulness that went behind the design of these amigurumis is just mind-blowing.

You have a caterpillar, you strap on a pair of wings, and now you have a butterfly!

The short story in the first section of this book was a nice touch. I was not expecting that. I can totally see myself sitting down with my kids one day, reading the short story while they make their crochet critters evolve. The playability of these amigurumis is an A+!

Even though I've been crocheting for about 3+ years now, I still have a lot to learn. This book can prove it.

The technique section contains tutorials on how to sew pieces together. It was not a technique that I am familiar with, but I can see myself using it on other projects in the future.

The patterns are written in US crochet terms, which is what I am used to, and are easy to follow. For some slightly more complicated pieces, the author has even included crochet stitch charts and photos to help explain the process. I had no problems following her patterns.

Here is my little ladybug!

Here's a really quick flip-through of the book shared by the author!

If you are on the fence about getting this book, don't be! This book will make a great gift for any crocheter and amigurumi fan.

If you only want to make one or two of the patterns but don't want to buy the entire book, you can visit Lalylala's Etsy Store.

However, I would totally recommend you purchase Lalylala's Beetles, Bugs, and Butterflies book so you can get all the patterns.

Disclaimer: I purchased the hardcover copy of the book and the electronic copy of the book was given to me as a prize from an Instagram giveaway. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
