The Things To Remember When Instigating a Creative Parent-Child Relationship

Creativity is not just an important aspect of your child's life, but it can be an amazing thing to solidify the relationship between you and your child. Creativity is not just associated with musicians or artists but is key to developing communication and nurturing relationships.

A creative mind is not something exclusive to the geniuses, but it's something that you and your children can do together. So what can you do to build the relationship between you and your child's in a creative sense, and how can it help you both?

Encourage Their Creative Minds Whenever You See Them

The school environment can be a help and a hindrance. If your child has entered their teenage years, that combination of hormones and anxiety leads them to constantly second guess everything about who they are and what they look like.

They may come home saying their teeth look horrible, and they need surgery or clear braces as this will “fix their lives,” but it's these negative thoughts that can switch off the creative mind. This is why you need to encourage their minds away from the school environment.

You can do this by removing their gadgets for a short period of time because this will prompt them to figure out other methods to entertain themselves. And this is a key thing to being creative.

This also means that you should put your gadget away, and find methods together to entertain yourselves. Yes, your child may complain at first, but it is so important to embrace the idea of being bored and because it's forcing your mind to come up with new solutions.

Creativity Does Not Equal Academic Smarts

Your child is in an environment where there is, no doubt, pressure to perform. This means that there is a pressure to also conform to the system. Letting your child process thoughts and feelings by channelling them into a piece of art can give them the ability to create a canvas for their feelings that they were not able to verbalize.

This is where you can encourage and ask them to develop and realize that perfection is not the goal. Creativity is not to do with final products, it is an important process. This means that you need to let your child fail, and this means that you've also got to give yourself permission to fail.

When you are both creating things together, it is important to realize that failure doesn't matter, as long as you learn from it. And this is something that can take them full circle when it comes to developing in school. School and grades are not who they are, but are merely symbols of how they are doing in that environment.

A creative mindset is so important because it helps your children convey the thoughts and feelings, but when you start to develop creativity as a parent and child, it's almost like a unique language, and will only strengthen the special bond you have between you, which is one of the most beautiful things that you can ever have.
