Encouraging Your Children To Be Their Best Creative Self

Your children should be free to express themselves and explore every possible avenue when it comes to their creativity. Often, this is something that the kid is born with, and you will notice signs of a creative child right from an early age.

There are a lot of parents out there who think that this is a waste of time and that their child should pursue something ‘better’, but we don’t think that. Instead, we think that you should allow your child to explore their creativity and do whatever they need to in order to really embrace this.

We’re going to be looking at a few examples down below, and how you can encourage them to do this, so keep reading if you would like to find out more.

Push Them Towards Arts And Crafts

One of the things that you can try to do is lead them in the directions of various arts and crafts. There are a lot of different ones to choose from, so it’s not like they are limited by anything. If drawing isn’t their thing then maybe painting is, if painting isn’t their thing then maybe sculpting is.

It might take a long time to find the correct art or craft that really brings out their creative side, but we promise that if it is there, you will find it as long as you are willing to stick with it.

Of course, we’re not saying that you should force them into anything as that would be entirely unfair.

Let them choose their own path when it comes to this, but be there to suggest new things for them to try if they haven’t quite found the right fit yet.

Let Them Experiment With Their Skin

Another way that your child might want to experiment with their creative self is by doing things on their skin. If your child is a little bit older and you don’t mind letting them experiment with makeup that is made specifically for young children, then go for it.

It doesn’t harm their skin, and as long as they are washing it off before they go to bed there is no harm in this. We understand that not all parents would be happy with this and that’s okay, it just depends on who you are.

As they get older, you might find that this is how they choose to express themselves more and more. The older they get, the more advanced that they will become with this, and it could be a really great thing for your child.

For those parents who aren’t comfortable with this when their children are young, that’s fine, but you can think about getting some face paint or stickers that they can experiment with.

If they are using makeup though, we recommend looking into good moisturisers just to keep their skin in the best possible condition.

Help Them Find Their Favorite Creative Outlet

As parents, it’s your job to help them find a creative outlet for all of their creativity. We talked about this a little in the first section, looking at the different types of arts and crafts, but sometimes this is not the way a child is creatively inclined.

For example, they might want to do this through dress up rather than through arts and crafts, and again, this is okay. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play dress-up and experimenting through this type of play, as it could lead to something that they fall in love with.

If they’re not sure about how they want to get this out, you can suggest certain possibilities that they can try, and keep coming up with ideas until they find the one that they are comfortable with and love the most.

You never know, with some kids it’s multiple different things, so just be there to come up with a range of different suggestions.

Get Involved With Them

One of the things that we encourage you to do in order to encourage your children is to get involved in whatever they choose to do. We’re not suggesting that you become overbearing or try to control anything about the process, but get involved.

Talk to them about it, let them show you what they love, and let them experiment on you if they want to and you are comfortable with this. If they want you to do a certain art with them, try your best, they don’t care if you’re not any good at it.

It’s a huge issue for some children when their parents don’t want to get involved with the things that they enjoy, especially if the reason is that they don’t like them themselves.

We’re not saying that you have to like it, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t put the effort into where the child is concerned. It’s not hard to get excited about something that your child is excited about, even if it’s only when they are around to do it with you.

Let Them Be Different

There is nothing wrong with being different and that is something that you need to teach your child from a young age. Differences are what make us unique, they are what makes us, us and we want your kids to be able to really feel free to be who they are with you.

There are a lot of people in the world who are different and thank God for that because if there weren’t then the world would be extremely boring.

We want to make it clear that you do not need to understand it, but you do need to be supportive. You might not like the arts yourself, but if they do, that’s all that matters.

You might not be interested in drama or theatre or you might not like dressing up, but you do what you have to do to make sure your child knows that they are amazing.

Don’t Dampen Their Sparkle

Never dampen the sparkle of your kids when they are being creative. You can give them opinions if they are asked for them, and you can tell them that you think this would be a better fit for them, but don’t make the choice away.

Being creative is a wonderful gift in this life, and it’s something that doesn’t happen to everyone, so you should not be dampening the sparkle of your child. It might sound silly and you might think that you would never do this, but some parents do it without realizing it.

For example, if you are trying to push a ‘more practical’ option on them and trying to bring them away from their creativity, then this is exactly what you are doing.

Whether it’s crocheting, dressing up, art, design, or whatever else, they deserve their chance to shine in this area. Or, at the very least, explore if this is where their shine works the best.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you can do in order to encourage your children to be their best creative selves.

We know that sometimes this can be difficult, but we have every faith in you that you can achieve this goal once you set it for yourself.

There are too many parents in this world who are quick to put a damper on creativity in favour of other things, and we hope that this article has shown you why you should not. Good luck!
