7 Quick And Easy DIY Christmas Present Ideas Kids Can Make

Looking for a thoughtful gift from your kids this year? Why not have them make something they know you will love! Here are 7 quick and easy DIY Christmas present ideas that kids can make.

Pinecone Snowman

The pinecones on the ground in your backyard just need to be gathered up, shaped into a snowman, and decorated with some paint. This is a perfect project if you have more than one child who wants to participate.

Playdough Ornaments

All you need is some play dough, a cookie cutter in the shape of an ornament, and paint – easy peasy. This is also an excellent project for multiple children to help out with. Just make sure you have enough materials on hand.

Paper Plate Snowman Craft

Kids can turn those paper plates they've been using as part of their snack routine into adorable little snowmen that double as place cardholders. All it takes is folding down the outer rim until there's just a straight line left at the top, then attaching googly eyes and pom-poms for buttons.
Of course, you'll want to use hot glue so everything stays put during your Christmas celebration. Once they dry, just write some names on them and set them out as a festive touch to your dinner table.

Washi Tape Tree Ornaments

Kids can make these simple, elegant washi tape Christmas tree decorations with just a little bit of crafting know-how and lots of fun. You'll need a few sheets of construction paper (in different colours), silver metallic paint, googly eyes or stickers for the face, scissors, glitter glue, white ribbon (optional) and Mod Podge.
Start by cutting triangles from the construction paper that range in size depending on how large you want each ornament to be. Fold down about an inch at one end of each triangle and cut small slits to create a zigzag line.
Then fold the rest of the paper down to meet up with your slit, creating an accordion-style shape. Paint over this section with silver metallic paint and let dry before adding googly eyes or other face embellishments you've chosen using glitter glue.
Once that's done, add some ribbon if desired. Then seal them in by brushing Mod Podge on top to protect them from any moisture damage during Christmas, such as food and drinks being spilled on them at dinner parties.

Reindeer Treat Sacks

Kids can make these simple reindeer treat bags for their friends' goody baskets this year using materials they already have around the house, like construction paper and cotton balls. You'll need construction paper (one reindeer shape per bag), cotton balls, glue, googly eyes, markers or crayons to decorate the sacks.
Simply fold down two opposite corners of your reindeer. Shape a piece of construction paper until it starts looking like a cone, then cut out the bottom section so you've got an open rectangle. This is where you can put all those tasty Christmas goodies.
Use markers or crayons to draw on features such as antlers and mouths. Once dry, fill up with treats and attach some ribbon or twine at one end to close it up and you're all set.

Candy Cane Garland

Kids can make this cute candy cane garland with the leftover materials from their other Christmas projects. You'll need construction paper (in red, white and pink), scissors, pipe cleaners, glitter glue, googly eyes or stickers for decoration and markers.
Start by cutting four equal-length strips out of your three different colours of construction paper, then cut each strip into smaller pieces. Hence, they are about two inches long.
Next, twist a pipe cleaner around these little rectangles starting on one end until everything is secured together in place, then finish off by drawing some antlers on your reindeer's face using the markers. Next, glue on some googly eyes or stickers then ties a ribbon at one end of each pipe cleaner to hang.

Santa Hat Bottle Wraps

Kids can make these adorable Santa hat-shaped water bottle covers with help from an adult since they'll need scissors, glue and paintbrushes for this project. You'll need construction paper (in red), a hot glue gun, silver glitter spray adhesive, small round pieces of felt in different colours.
Cut out two large triangles from the construction paper so that it looks like a candy cane wrapper when it's folded down along the long edge. Fold one side over about three inches, then cut a fringe into that flap, so it looks like a candy cane.
Paint over the lower section of your hat with silver glitter spray adhesive and let dry completely before attaching to the top of the water bottle using small pieces of hot glue.
Once cooled, add eyes, nose and mouth from felt pieces or stickers if preferred. Googly eyes work really well for this project but feel free to use what you have on hand.

Be prepared for a messy dining table and a possible migraine (just take sumatriptan tablets to quickly get back to your old self). But the memories and fun while doing these crafts with your kids will outweigh the cleaning and bickering. Just remember to have your camera phone nearby to capture these precious moments.
